College of International Education (formerly the Department of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language) of Shandong University, Weihai, was established in 1993, renamed the College of International Education and Exchange in 1995, and College of International Education in 2008. It has been successively co-located with the School of Northeast Asia Studies (formerly Korean College) and the International Office. In April 2020, the College of International Education resumed its independent office in accordance with the needs of reform and development.
The College of International Education is mainly responsible for the recruitment, cultivation, and management of non-degree international language students in Weihai campus, as well as the cultivation of Chinese language ability and organization of Chinese proficiency test for international students. The College consists of three institutions: the General Affairs Department, the Teaching Affairs Department and the Student Affairs Department. The College and the College of International Education on Jinan central campus, complement each other's advantages, share resources and develop in coordination.
Adhering to the cultural heritage of the century-old Shandong University, the College of International Education relies on the beautiful environment of the livable city Weihai to expand cooperation and exchanges with government departments, educational institutions and overseas universities in all directions. Every year, it attracts students from more than 20 countries came to study, including South Korea, Japan, the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, Spain, Australia, India, etc. The number of students has been increasing year by year, and the quality of training has been continuously improving, making it an important base for language learning and cultural exchange.
The College of International Education will take the connotative development path centered on improving quality and efficiency, continuously improve the conditions for running international schools, integrate and develop high-quality curriculum systems and special programs, and make every effort to improve the quality of education for non-degree international students. The college will devote itself to spreading the excellent traditional Chinese culture to all over the world, and contributing to the improvement of the internationalization of the campus.
