Visa and Residence Permit

1. If you are applying for a student visa from outside China

After receiving the Admission Notice and Foreign Student Visa Application Form JW201 or JW202, you can apply for the Student Visa (X1 or X2 visa) at the Chinese embassy or consulate. The Following documents are required (the specific documents may vary per country of application):

a. Passport

b. Admission notice

c. JW201/202 form

2. First time residence permit application

After arriving at Shandong University, please register and pay the required fees as soon as possible. You can then apply for a residence permit with the following required documents:

a. Admission notice

b. Copy of the passport’s personal information page, the visa page and the last entry seal page

c. Certificate of Verification of the Physical Examination Record for Foreigners issued by Weihai Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau

d. Please write down your telephone number and address in a blank part on the copy of your passport page. If you live off campus, please submit the copy of the temporary registration form from the local police station.

e. One passport size photo


3. If you are applying for residence permit extension

One month prior to the expiry of your residence permit, you should apply for a residence permit extension at your school. Please prepare and submit the following documents:

a. Copy of the passport’s personal information page, the residence permit page and the last entry seal page

b. Copy of the personal information page of the student book

c. Please write down your telephone number and address in a blank part on the copy of your passport page. If you live off campus, please submit the copy of the temporary accomodation registration form from the local police station.

d. One passport size photo


4. When applying for discontinuing or suspending your study

Any students applying for the discontinuation or suspension of their studies are asked to change their Residence Permit to a Stay Permit. Please prepare and submit the following required documents:

a. Copy of the passport’s personal information page, the residence permit page and the last entry seal page

b. Copy of the personal information page of the student book

c. Please write down your telephone number and address in a blank part on the copy of your passport page. If you live off campus, please submit the copy of the temporary registration form from the local police station.

d. One passport size photo


5. If your visa / residence permit has already expired

Please go to the Exit & Entry Administration Bureau located in your residence district to get the certificate called ‘’decision of penalty’’. Then prepare and submit the following documents:

a. Copy of the passport’s personal information page, the residence permit page and the last entry seal page

b. Copy of the personal information page of the student book

c. Copy of the certificate called ‘’decision of penalty’’

d. Please write down your telephone number and address in a blank part on the copy of your passport page. If you live off campus, please submit the copy of the temporary registration form from the local police station.

e. One passport size photo


6. When you need to renew the passport

a. You need to apply for a new passport in advance. A passport application can take a long time so it should be done well in advance. You can consult your country’s embassy or consulate for more information.

b. After collecting a new passport, students need to register at police station and apply for a change of visa/residence permit from school as soon as possible.

c. The College of International Education will help you to submit the documents to the office of the Department of International Affairs. After the approval of the university, you need to go to the Exit & Entry Administration Bureau of Weihai Public Security Bureau with relevant documents.


7. If you have lost your passport

a. You need to report the loss to the local police station as soon as possible and get the certificate of reporting a lost passport.

b. Go to the Exit & Entry Administration Bureau of Jinan Public Security Bureau with the certificate of reporting a lost passport.

c. Apply for a new passport from your country’s embassy or consulate by using the certificate issued by the Exit & Entry Administration Bureau.

d. After receiving a new passport, students need to register it at the police station and apply for a change of visa/residence permit from their school as soon as possible.

e.The College of International Education will help you to submit the documents to the International Office. After the approval of the university, you need to go to the Exit & Entry Administration Bureau of Weihai Public Security Bureau with relevant documents.

Notice:

Every foreigner must have a valid passport and visa/residence permit to stay in China. Please ensure your passport and visa/residence permit do not expire.

Foreigners living in China should register the accommodation address at the local police station within 24 hours after moving into a new place. The foreigner should take his or her passport and rental contract to the local police station in order to get a Registration Form of Temporary Residence. If you are living in the International Students Accommodation on campus, it can be processed directly at the reception of the building. If you are living off campus, you should go to the local police station.

Illegally residing in China is a serious violation of the law and can lead to a fine of ¥500 per day with a maximum of ¥10,000.
